English

We have been reading, learning and exploring 'The Magic Box' poem by Kit Wright. We looked closely at each verse and decided to write about our own treasured moments, place we might visit on our magic box and what our box is made from.

World Book Day

We've had so much fun dressing as our favourite character and sharing our favourite books. We also had to solve the mystery of our chairs disappearing! After reading 'The Day the Crayons Quit' we realised our chairs had gone on strike and received a letter with demands!! Through our brilliant letter writing we managed to persuade them to come back before our backs ached any more!!

Spring Term 2

This term we are continuing with our Traditional Tales looking at Little Red Riding Hood. We will look at different versions of the story and eventually write our own. We will meet Little Red Riding Hood and get a letter from the Wolf to hear his side of the story. Lots of fun to come!

We will be working on specific grammar focuses throughout the term to help improve our writing.

We enjoyed exploring characters feelings from our story The Crow's Nest.

Spellings

These will be in a spelling book sent home everyday for the children to learn. They are from the high frequency word list or common exception word list. These will be looked at with a grown up in the class every week to see how they are getting on with their learning. This is not a weekly test and the children are not expected to learn all ten every week. They will learn at their own pace which will ensure they become more familiar with these words and use them in their writing correctly. Each child will always be learning 10 words.

Reading words

Each child is given 5 new words to learn these are words from 'high frequency word list' or 'common exception word list'. A grown up in class will check these words every week to see how they are getting on with their learning. The children are not expected to learn all five words in a week. they will learn at their own pace.

The more you read, the more you'll know. The more you know, the more places you'll go!"
