Netherton Infant School Maryport ..................................... SAFEGUARDING IS EVERYONE'S RESPONSIBILITY

Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

Key Information for Year 2

Children will be listened to in school every week at least three times. Children will bring home a reading for pleasure book, this may be a book that your child needs support to read or read to to them. The book your child is reading in school will be available as an e-book to access at home. In Year 2 we strive to read four times a week at home, each read must be recorded in their reading together books to be entered into our prize draw in Friday's assembly. Please read as often as possible to your child, make it a habit, some together time where you share the love of reading. A perfect way to settle your child ready for bed is to have story time. As Dr. Seuss once said "The more you read, the more you'll know. The more you learn, the more places you will go."

Spellings will be sent home very week on a Tuesday and tested the following Tuesday. These words will link into the phase of phonics they are currently learning or common exception words for their year group. Please give your child opportunity at home to practice the spellings as many times as they can not just in the four spaces available in the book, the more the better!

Mathswhizz will continue from Year 1 using the same login details children will be able to access Mathswhizz at home. They will also have timetabled opportunity to do the recommended 45 minutes during school. You can support your child to read questions that come up but please do not do it for them as the programme will move them on to new learning before they are secure.

P.E. Days

On P.E. days children will need to come ready in their P.E. kits, which should be suitable clothing and footwear to take part in the activities for that session. On Monday children will have Sports Trek with Jordan and Tuesday will be Cricket with John. There may be opportunity for Yoga later on in the year but this will be communicated when necessary.
