Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

Key Information for Year 2

Reading

Children will be listened to in school every week at least three times. Children will bring home the book they are reading in class which is all linked to the sounds and tricky words they are learning. They will also bring home a book of their choice to read for pleasure, this may be a book that your child needs support to read or read to to them.

Please read as often as possible to your child, make it a habit, some together time where you share the love of reading. A perfect way to settle your child ready for bed is to have story time. As Dr. Seuss once said "The more you read, the more you'll know. The more you learn, the more places you will go."

Spellings

Spellings will be sent home very week on a Friday and tested the following Friday. These words will link into the phase of phonics they are currently learning or common exception words for their year group. Please give your child opportunity at home to practice the spellings as many times as they can not just in the four spaces available in the book, the more the better!

Mathswhizz

Mathswhizz will continue from Year 1 using the same login details children will be able to access Mathswhizz at home. They will also have timetabled opportunity to do the recommended 45 minutes during school. You can support your child to read questions that come up but please do not do it for them as the programme will move them on to new learning before they are secure.
